We are excited to announce a new R&D project on the holistic utilisation of the pineapple plant that started in September!
Together with our project partner eco:fibr GmbH and the Institute for Multiphase Processes at Leibniz Universität Hannover, the GaVA project is testing the extraction of cellulose from pineapple plants and the associated measures for #WaterReuse on an industrial scale. To this end, a pilot plant for the extraction of cellulose from pineapple plants and the associated reuse of purified water is to be set up and operated in Lower Saxony, Germany.
We are focussing on the efficient recovery of process chemicals, extensive closing of water circuits and the use of adapted cleaning processes in order to guarantee a high product quality of the pulp in the most sustainable way.
Who are eco:fibr? 🍍🪵
The start-up extracts pulp for the paper and cardboard industry from pineapple plant waste generated during cultivation, thus offering an alternative to conventional wood pulp.
The pioneering funding of 800,000 euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the “Stärker entwickelte Region” (SER) programme area of the state of Lower Saxony enables the cooperation partners to continue their R&D work to optimise the use of pineapple plants while minimising environmental impact. Many thanks for the funding! 💡🌎
We look forward to this meaningful collaboration for sustainable and efficient resource management. 🤝🙌
